FAQ & Information

This contains information on what to expect as a moderator, the full responsibilities, and much more.

Responsibilities

Moderators at Inferris shoulder a vital and multifaceted role, crucial to the health and vibrancy of our community. We work with you and your schedule to find what you most enjoy.

Just so that it's laid out before you read: the primary entry point to this role is Discord Moderation, allowing you to focus on the Minecraft server if you'd like. With this setup, it helps with the structure so that we are all on the same team together without splitting us apart, while giving mods a choice on what to moderate based on their interests and schedule. Here's an in-depth look at their responsibilities:
  1. Enforcing Server Rules: Moderators play a pivotal role in upholding the rules and guidelines that govern our Discord server, ensuring that gameplay remains fair, enjoyable, and in accordance with our community standards. They're the guardians of the rule book, making sure everyone has a level playing field.

  2. Extending a Helping Hand: Perhaps one of the most cherished aspects of being a moderator is the opportunity to assist fellow players. Whether it's providing guidance to newcomers, helping troubleshoot technical issues, or offering tips and advice, moderators act as beacons of support within our community. Their mission is to ensure that every member feels heard, valued, and welcome.

  3. Maintaining a Positive Community Atmosphere: Moderators are the architects of our community's ambiance. They actively work to cultivate a warm, friendly, and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. They foster camaraderie, discourage negativity, and ensure that interactions on our server and platforms are respectful and enjoyable.

  4. Addressing Player Reports: When issues arise, moderators are on the front lines of conflict resolution. They carefully investigate and respond to player reports, ensuring that disputes are resolved fairly and impartially. Their goal is to promote a sense of justice and fairness within the community.

  5. Managing Punishment Appeals: Moderators handle punishment appeals with a fair and empathetic approach. They review appeals submitted by players who believe they have been wrongly penalized, considering each case on its merits. This process helps maintain transparency and accountability in our moderation practices.

  6. Multi-Platform Moderation: Depending on the moderator, they may extend their care to our Minecraft server and forums, ensuring that the same standards of conduct are upheld across all our communication channels.
Optional responsibilities
We may offer optional responsibilities that you can choose to take on. This could be from writing and publishing news or even writing articles for our Support center.

I want to emphasize that these additional responsibilities are entirely optional. While they can be rewarding and beneficial, please consider your own well-being and availability before taking on any optional tasks. If you ever have concerns or questions about your responsibilities or need assistance in managing your commitments, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Requirements

  • Staff members must be at least 18 years old
  • Having a commitment to help others*, not feel motivated by any sort of power
  • Active within the community
  • Good standing as far as punishment record goes
  • We may occasionally recruit based on certain time zones, so keep a mindful eye in case we discuss that

Supporting Your Growth Beyond Moderation

We're here to support you not only during your time with us, but also as you pursue your future goals (to the most that we can under our time constraints).

Resume building
Sometimes, your role as a moderator can be a valuable experience to showcase on your college or job applications. If you're accepted as a moderator, we will try to offer assistance with creating resume templates tailored to your specific responsibilities and achievements within our community if you seek help. We want to ensure that you can effectively communicate the skills and experiences gained while moderating at Inferris.

Acting as a Professional Reference
As you embark on your academic or professional journey, we're here to help you succeed. If a potential employer or academic institution contacts us for a reference related to your volunteer experience with us, you can count on me to provide a recommendation. We genuinely believe in your potential and are willing to vouch for your dedication, teamwork, and the positive impact you've had on our community.

Commitment to Team Building
Teamwork is at the core of what we do, and we extend that sense of unity and collaboration beyond the server. We're committed to fostering a supportive and close-knit team environment among our staff members. You'll find that we value each staff member as a friend and a vital part of our collective success. We encourage sharing ideas, learning from one another, and growing together as a team.

Additional Benefits

Closed Build Testing: Contribute to the development process by participating in testing new features and dev builds on a separate part of our Minecraft network.

Testing Forum-Related Features: Help us improve our forums by participating in testing new forum-related features and enhancements.

Staff Events: Join informal gatherings and events designed to strengthen friendships and connections among our staff members. While not required, we encourage you to pop in when you get a chance!

The rest of the benefits are enclosed so that no one tries to apply for the benefits, as that's a definite no-no.
